Ranking observation: Short-form drama apps formed the clearest cross-platform pattern: NetShort and DramaWave appeared in both free-app Top 10s, while DramaBox moved from No. 98 to No. 21 on iOS and from No. 85 to No. 28 on Android. Naver Plus Store also rose from No. 89 to No. 9 on iOS. (8)

Market developments
What Changed This Week
Naver Turns Product Discovery Into an AI Commerce Layer
What happened: Naver Plus Store rose from 7.77 million monthly active users in March to 8.75 million in May. Alongside the standalone-app push, Naver is expanding AI shopping features designed to recommend products and help users move from browsing toward purchase within its ecosystem. (9)
Why it matters in Korea: The app combines price comparison, Naver Pay rewards, delivery filters, and AI shopping assistance. This gives Naver a route to compete around discovery and decision support rather than simply copying a logistics-first shopping model. (10)
Foreign-company takeaway: Foreign brands should improve product feeds, attributes, images, and Korean-language descriptions so recommendation systems can understand the offer. Treat structured product data as a merchandising asset, not only an SEO requirement.
Coupang’s Recovery Shows the Switching Cost of Convenience
What happened: A late-2025 data breach exposed information linked to about 33.7 million customer accounts. Coupang’s monthly active users then fell for three consecutive months before rebounding to about 35.03 million in March 2026. (11)
Why it matters in Korea: The rebound does not mean privacy concerns disappeared. It suggests that Rocket Delivery, Rocket Fresh, memberships, and habitual ordering can create a high practical cost of switching when alternatives do not match the same bundle of convenience. (12)
Foreign-company takeaway: Privacy positioning alone is unlikely to dislodge an entrenched platform. New entrants need a concrete utility advantage—price, assortment, logistics, rewards, or service quality—that is strong enough to change routine behavior.
