Korea App Rankings, Platform Updates, and Market Signals

Issue #14 · October 11–18, 2026

ReelShort climbed from #76 to #9 in Korea’s Android free-app chart, while a vintage-camera app took iOS #1. In commerce, Daangn reported a sharp increase in transactions during its first free-shipping event. The useful question for global teams is not just what attracted attention, but what people do after the initial incentive or opening scene.

This Week in Three Signals

01

ReelShort rises 67 places

The short-drama app moved from #76 to #9 in Korea’s Android free-app snapshots over seven days. This week’s cause is not verified. (1)

02

A camera app takes iOS #1

Moments I See When I Love You moved from #5 to #1. AI Catch also rose from #63 to #7; neither chart move establishes acquisition volume or its cause. (2)

03

Daangn reports an event-day lift

In its October 11 release, Daangn said October 10 transactions rose 141% versus its usual Saturday level. That is a company-reported transaction comparison—not a retention result. (3)

Ranking observation: ReelShort rose 67 places to Android #9, while PDF Reader moved from #90 to #10. On iOS, AI Catch climbed 56 places to #7 and Pocket CU rose 26 places to #8. Cat Hero jumped from iOS games #75 to #4. Pro Baseball GO appeared at Android games #1 after being absent from the previous tracked Top 100. NEW marks that boundary, not a verified launch date. What Changed This Week

ReelShort’s jump is a prompt to test the first session

What happened: ReelShort moved from #76 to #9 between October 11 and 18 in Korea’s Android free-app snapshots. Its official store listing describes serialized, short-form drama. The chart comparison does not identify the campaign, creative, or viewing behavior behind the rise. (9)

Why it matters in Korea: Sensor Tower’s February 2026 Korea report described a market led by overseas short-drama apps, with locally adapted events and creative among competing approaches. These are earlier category findings—not ReelShort’s current acquisition evidence or an explanation of this week’s jump. (10)

Foreign-company takeaway: For a Korean content pilot, test two opening lines against the same subtitled scene. Compare first-scene completion and next-episode starts, keeping audience targeting and the destination fixed. Check return viewing separately before increasing spend.

Daangn’s free-shipping spike leaves a repeat-use question

What happened: Daangn’s October 11 announcement said transactions on October 10 rose 141% versus its usual Saturday level. The promotion supported up to five shipped purchases per person. The reported total also included face-to-face trades, so it should not be labeled a shipped-order increase. (11)

Why it matters in Korea: The company’s September 29 plan described automatic shipping support at checkout and a payment-to-delivery flow with CJ Logistics. It helps explain the offer’s mechanics, but neither release establishes incremental new customers, post-event repeat purchases, or profitable growth. (12)

Foreign-company takeaway: For a Korean commerce pilot, explain eligibility and the final payable amount before checkout. Track first completed orders, cancellations, and a later purchase without the incentive as separate measures. Treat the repeat-purchase window as a test design choice, not a reported Daangn result.

Does the next action outlast the incentive?

Check whether ReelShort remains in next week’s tracked Top 10. For your own experiments, review return viewing or an unincentivized repeat purchase separately from the initial click or transaction; neither outcome is established by this week’s public evidence. (15)
